How did the allies regain islands lost to Japan in the Pacific Theater during WWII?

The only one I have is Island Hopping. Are there any other methods that the Allies used to take back Pacific Islands during WWII? Thanks in advanced.

1. Military invasion. Airborn bombardment and assault. Naval gunfire bombardment. And plenty of brave soldiers and Marines and Sailors. God Bless every one of them.
