What materials were used to build The Canadian Pacific Railway?

For my history class, I am doing a project on the Canadian Pacific Railway. I need to know what material/inventions were used to build the railway.

  2. This is a very dark piece piece of canadian history. The Canadian Pacific Railway forged its way west using what was basically slave labour (some will argue that it wasn't) Chinese Canadians did the majority of the dirty work and it is said that there is one dead body for ever mile of track. When one of the workers died along the way instead of spending money and labour to bury them in a grave they would bury them under the tracks, basically use them as ballast. This is a very sad piece of history but one that should not be forgotten none the less!
  3. materials . . . . . . lots of gravel for roadbed, wooden ties, steel for the rail and bridges. Lots of dynamite or course. I am not aware of any new inventions, mostly a LOT of work using existing technology, including as you saw above, indentured type labor. Most of these immigrants were indeed treated very poorly but no less poorly than they were before they immigkrated so you have to take things into consideration I guess.
