Do you think electronic road pricing is one solution to stop global warming?
For those who don't know what electronic road pricing is.... Road Pricing means that motorists pay directly for driving on a particular roadway or in a particular area. Value Pricing is a marketing term which emphasizes that road pricing can directly benefit motorists through reduced congestion or improved roadways. The electronic toll collection system is a electronic system that is located along the expressways and arterial roads with heavy traffic to discourage usage during peak hours. A device known as an In-vehicle Unit (IU) is affixed on the lower right corner of the front windscreen within sight of the driver, in which a stored-value card, the CashCard, is inserted for payment of the road usage charges. This system is mandatory in some countries. Do you think a system like this will work well in the United States? ugh! This has nothing to do with Al Gore. Despite the fact that Al Gore is an advocate for global warming, this has nothing to do with him. Electronic road pricing actually exist and many countries enforce it. It's not only a global warming solution but a economical one as well. Keep in mind that I never stated an opinion. I never stated if I supported this idea or not. It's a simple question, there is no need to attack liberals, Hillary or whoever. This isn't a liberal policy or idea, in fact it's not even an U.S. idea.

- no.
- How is that going to control the Sun?
- no, build nuclear plants.
- the biggest contributor to greenhouse gasses is not automobiles -fossil fuel electric plants are the largest emitters - so start replacing them with nuclear energy and renewables.
- Global Warming is a myth... Al Gore Invented it after he Inveted the Internet..
- No. I think it would just financially penalize already overburdened hard-working people like my husband.
- Absolutely not! We are taxed to death to build and maintain roads which is why I loathe toll roads which to me should be illegal to charge for something that we are being taxed to build in the first place. I have long suggested that the US build an extensive commuter rail system versus widening highways every time. Now that they have widened the highway, they should not charge me for using it.
- No, not driving in the first place is.
- No that sounds like a Democratic fund raising scheme!! Global Warming is a bunk myth If it was in any way true then the Volcanoes that erupting everyday would have killed us by now!!!!
- AL Gore invented electronic road pricing.
- No but ..... Gore and Kerry should quit using so much oil. It'll cause polar bears and kids to die.
- if you really wanted to discourage as usage wouldn't it be easier to you know put a sin tax on gas. I mean it seems pretty asinine to pay for such a complex system when you can do just that.
- Wanna control global warming? Turn off the sun. Any other measure would be simply destroying civil liberties and giving the government more control of the individual and have no effect on global temperature. Oh you arrogant humans who actually believe your actions can effect the cycle of worlds.
- No, it's a pretty dumb idea. If you want to reduce carbon emissions, charging people to use the road won't do much. Charging them to burn gasoline, OTOH, will help. Gasoline is taxed in America, but not so heavily as in some other countries. But, it is used to pay for road construction and maintenance. Shifting that cost burden to a per-vehicle use fee rather than a per-gallon tax would actually decrease the incentive to reduce carbon emissions, since you'd pay the same for a gas-guzzling SUV as for a low-emissions hybrid. OTOH, gas taxes automatically discourage gas consumption. If $3 gas doesn't encourage Americans to buy more fuel-efficient cars and/or drive them less often, maybe $5 or $10 gas will... Public transportation that doesn't absolutely suck would also help - you could fund it with the extra gas taxes. Gasoline taxes perfectly capture more taxes from those who make the most use of roads and belch them most emissions into the air, and they can be efficiently imposed at a relatively small number of refineries and ports (or even retail pumps). Taxing road /use/ via an electronic monitoring system would not only be a 'Big Brother' like invasion of privacy, but would also be nightmarishly complex and expensive. The only reason to favor such a boondoggle would be if you worked for a company that made the electronic equipment in question, or stood to win a contract to keep the whole thing running.
- No, using microorganisms to reclaim waste, and turn it into fuel, would be the best way, along with using them to re-mediate greenhouse gases produced. After that, teaching people to be conserve energy where they can, and promote sustainable industrial practices would be the best way. Most waste can be digested biologiclaly, or chemically and converted to useful products. Locking down travel and reserving it only for the affluent, isn't going to solve anything. The sun being the cause of "Global Warming", was debunked a long time ago.
- Although that may reduce traffic, and therefore emissions, it would also ensure that only the rich can afford to drive. Those who have to drive for their jobs would be also be penalized. We do need to reduce car usage, the pollution produced is reason enough. The best way to do this is to provide low cost public transport, and to stop building homes and shops out of town.
- That's stupid
- Some people are so pathetic. You want the gov't to tax us in order to control our behavior? Pathetic.
- scipor3001 says that the sun warming the earth was "debunked" long ago. I am definately in the corner of the scientific community now, who could believe that the sun is responsible for warming the Earth they would have to be complete morons, of course it has always been SUVs that warm the Earth.
- No. This policy would only encourage outrage and lawlessness in the US. Also, despite the grammatical rule of using 'an' before words that start with a vowel, 'a' is perfectly find for words like United, where the beginning sound of the word is the pronunciation sound of 'U'.
